We all wish we could change our name and move to a tropical island sometimes, but that isn't the most realistic way to combat stress. Luckily, there's a great way to clear your head and escape the daily grind right here in Arizona: the Japanese Friendship Garden of Phoenix. This lush oasis in the desert is full of vibrant flowers, colorful Koi fish, and calming energy that promises to leave you feeling relaxed and ready to take on the day.
Next time you're feeling stressed or just need some peace and quiet, don't book an expensive island vacation.
Instead, clear your mind without leaving the city at the Japanese Friendship Garden of Phoenix.
A sister city project between Phoenix and Himeji, Japan, the garden is a 3.5-acre oasis designed to help you escape the stressors of everyday life.
It features more than 1,500 tons of hand-picked rock and other decorative features, all designed by the City of Himeji and its citizens.
The centerpiece of the garden is a Koi pond with over 300 bright, colorful fish.
Stone footbridges carve pathways across the water, and traditional lanterns serve as guiding lights after dark.
You'll also see more than 50 varieties of plants, so there's always something in bloom no matter what season it is.
Take in the beautiful sights as you enjoy a leisurely, relaxing stroll.
A 12-foot waterfall spills into the pond, its rushing waters drowning out any unwanted thoughts weighing heavily on your mind.
Close your eyes and allow the white noise to lull you into a state of deep, blissful tranquility.
Various events such as workshops, classes, and tea ceremonies are regularly held in the garden.
