If you've ever watched the full moon rise over Sedona's iconic red rocks, then you know it's a sight too beautiful for words. At Red Rock State Park, you can embark on a guided nighttime hike that lets you admire the full moon in all its glory, as well as learn all about the history, geology, wildlife, and vegetation of the area. The full moon hikes only take place through October, so don't waste any time reserving your spot!
Showcasing the iconic landscape Sedona is known and loved for, Red Rock State Park is worthy of a visit year-round.
You'll find the 286-acre nature preserve, which sits right along the banks of the crystal-clear Oak Creek, on Red Rock Loop Road.
A 5-mile network of trails meanders through the park, with three interconnecting loops that allow hikers to create their own adventure.
The Eagle's Nest Loop is arguably the most popular trail, as it leads to the highest point in the park. From here, panoramic vistas of the rugged terrain extend far as the eye can see in all directions, making for a truly awe-inspiring sight.
The park offers several guided nature walks that only serve to enhance your visit thanks to friendly staff members who are always happy to share their wealth of knowledge.
Topics of conversation include the geology, history, wildlife, archaeology, and vegetation of the area, with a special focus on birdwatching on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Once a month, on the night of the full moon, is the most popular guided hike of all.
Held from April through October, this nighttime stroll lets you witness the sunset and moonrise behind the red rocks from a scenic overlook in the park.
Covering a distance of approximately two miles, the hike lasts 2.5 hours.
In addition to seeing the full moon in all its glory, you'll also get to learn all the fascinating information offered on the regular guided hikes. It's the ultimate experience!
Upcoming dates are Monday, September 20 at 5:20 p.m., and Tuesday, October 19 at 4:20 p.m.
Registration has already begun for the September hike, and it costs $15 per person. You can register for October beginning on September 22.
It isn't a particularly challenging hike, so all ages and skill levels are welcome.
