The only Native American-owned and operated zoo in America, the Navajo Nation Zoo features over 50 animal species indigenous to the Navajo Nation and Southwest as a whole.
You will see everything from beautiful birds such as great-horned owls and sandhill cranes...
...to majestic mammals like desert bighorn sheep, bobcats, and even black bears.
Make sure to check out the eagle aviary during your visit. A crowd favorite, the 4,000-square-foot aviary is home to 17 golden eagles.
Another unique thing about the Navajo Nation Zoo is that each exhibit is labeled in both English and Navajo, offering visitors an immersive cultural experience. The signs describe each animal's significance to the Navajo people - you'll definitely walk away with some newfound knowledge!
Also on the grounds are examples of traditional Navajo hogans...
