The Magnificent Overlook In Alaska That’s Worthy Of A Little Adventure

There are many spectacular views all over Alaska. Some take a little bit of effort and adventuring to get to, but it is absolutely worth it! If you are visiting Denali National Park, the Mount Healy Overlook Trail is a magnificent day hike that rewards you with incredible views!

The Mount Healy Overlook Trail is located in Denali National Park.

The trailhead is off of the Taiga Trail, near Denali Visitor Center. The views are amazing from up here, but this trail definitely has a reputation! It's known as one of the more strenuous trails in the park.

It is classified as a moderate trail, so you don't have to worry about it being too difficult.

The trail is regularly maintained, and has a lot of amenities to help you ascend. There are even benches throughout the trail for you to take a rest on, and catch your breath.

The Mount Healy Overlook Trail is an out and back trail, unlike many other trails in Denali National Park, which are loops.

The trail is only 2.7 miles one way. It is a moderate climb in the beginning, but the end of the trail is a bit steep. There is approximately 1,700 feet of elevation gain total.

This particular trail is known for the amazing wildflowers you'll see.

The route is best climbed between June and August. Any other time of year and you may encounter snow. There are also high winds when you get close to the summit, so be sure to watch your footing.

Some of the steep sections are almost 25% grades!

The trek can take anywhere from two to four hours to hike, depending on your physical condition. The trail is paved in the beginning, and because it's well maintained, many people say that it doesn't get hard until the very end after the switchbacks.

The end of the trails has some of the most spectacular views in Alaska!

There are stunning views of Denali National Park's entrance. You can also see the Nenana River Valley, alpine ridges, and even Denali on a clear day! It's only 80 miles to the southwest.

Mount Healy's summit isn't the end of the trail, and you do have the option to continue on.

To reach the summit, you have to hike further on the alpine ridges, which can be pretty windy. It's an additional 1,500 feet up the mountain to the summit, but the incredible views are worth the challenge!
