The South Tongass Waterfall is beautiful, falling 100 feet into the pool below. It’s an impressive waterfall that’s easy to reach.
Located south of Ketchikan, this waterfall trail sees plenty of visitors through the summer due to its close proximity to town.
Right off the Tongass Highway, this waterfall is only .2 miles from the road. An easy walk will take you to this impressive natural display.
The trail has almost no elevation gain and is nice for hikers of all skill levels.
It’s truly just a short walk, and well worth it. The waterfall is tucked away and the shade, and it’s noticeably cooler in the forest.
The waterfall empties into a pool about 30 feet below the road shoulder.
The water is very cold, and during the springtime melt, the cascade can be deafening. If you try your hand at dunking in the water, late summer is the best time, as the water slows to a slow and steady fall.
There’s also a trail that will take you up 100 feet to the top of the waterfall.
If you’re feeling adventurous, this is a nice way to explore. But the views from the pool at the bottom are gorgeous, and the climb isn’t necessary if you want a great view.
