1. Michael Cornwell's Sawmaster Loop - Hurricane Creek Park

Dogs on a leash can hike with you on this 2-mile trail through Hurricane Creek Park. Michael Cornwell's Sawmaster Loop has many fascinating attributes, including rock formations, a pine forest, and Hurricane Creek for water views. You will love exploring this trail through beautiful nature, and your dog will, too!

2. Van de Graaff Eco Trail - Van DeGraaff Park, Northport

Located in Northport, Van De Graaff Park and Arboretum is an incredibly unique 141-acre public park that offers opportunities to fish, camp, and hike. The park's landscape includes freshwater ponds, a creek, and other wetland areas. The best hiking trail here is perhaps the short-and-sweet 0.5-mile Van de Graaff Eco Trail, and, yes, dogs are allowed as long as they are on a leash. Along this trek are sculptures and even a pedestrian bridge that offers some man-made visual interest alongside the park's natural beauty.

3. Tuscaloosa Riverwalk

The Tuscaloosa Riverwalk is a 3.9-mile paved path that runs parallel to the Black Warrior River. It is perfect for a family stroll. You can complete the trail in its entirety or just do a shorter portion—the choice is yours. Dogs will love the areas where they can be off-leash. This trail is wheelchair- and stroller-friendly, with picnic tables along the route. If you do stop for a picnic or to rest for a bit, make sure you have some dog treats handy for your pup!

4. Western Riverwalk - Oliver Dam Park

The 2.2-mile Western Riverwalk runs alongside the south bank of the Black Warrior River between Oliver Dam Park and Parker-Haun Park. While it's considered part of the Tuscaloosa Riverwalk, this multi-use trail also allows dogs, but they must remain on leash the entire time. It is also uncrowded, and you'll probably see many different species of birds while on this hike.

5. Buddy Powell Loop - Buddy Powell Pavilion Park

The Buddy Powell Loop at Buddy Powell Pavilion Park is a bit of a hidden gem trail on which you and your four-legged best friend can find some peace and quiet. You may even have the entire trail to yourself! This easy 1.2-mile trail is ideal for both kids and dogs, who can be off-leash to run around in some areas. The trail leads past the pavilion, through wooded areas, up and over hills, and past a creek. There's lots to see here!
