Prior to becoming a national forest, this area of land was in pretty bad shape. In fact, it wasn't until 1959 that this scenic area was designated a national forest by President Dwight D. Eisenhower.

Tuskegee National Forest offers several activities, including hiking. The Bartram National Recreational Trail is one of the forest's most popular hiking trails. Interestingly, it's also the first trail in Alabama to be designated a National Recreation Trail. This scenic trail cuts through the center of the forest.

Camping is another activity at Tuskegee National Forest. The forest offers 14 primitive campsites that'll let you experience the forest overnight.

A shooting range, a hunting area, a fishing area, and a wildlife viewing area are also offered at Tuskegee National Forest. There's a little something for everyone.
