11 Delectable Places In Montana To Go When Nothing But A Perfect Cupcake Will Do
Everyone who has a sweet tooth has their “drugs of choice.” Some are ice cream people, some can’t get enough cookies. But if you’re a Montanan who can truly appreciate a delectable, melt-in-your-mouth cupcake, you understand why these spots are so popular. They’re all known for perfecting the art of the miniature cake.
We’re aware that these uncertain times are limiting many aspects of life. While we continue to feature destinations that make our state wonderful, please take proper precautions or add them to your bucket list to see at a later date. If you know of a local business that could use some extra support during these times, please nominate them here:
1. Bernice's Bakery, 190 S 3rd St W., Missoula
They keep it simple at Bernice's: The cupcakes are baked from scratch daily, decorated to absolute perfection, and served. No wonder this has been a Missoula staple since 1978.
2. Henny Penny Cupcakes, 234 4th Ave., Havre
The cupcake competition isn't exactly fierce in Havre, but that doesn't stop Henny Penny from dominating it. Their selection is impressive, and every flavor is scrumptious.
3. Cupcake Mountain Cupcakery, 218 N. 7th Ave., Bozeman
Even in a city with plenty of bakery options, Cupcake Mountain manages to stand out. There are 14 flavors of cupcakes offered here, and they're all delicious.
4. Velvet Cravings, 225 N Broadway, Billings
Warning: The cupcakes at this custom cake shop are often so beautiful, you won't want to eat them. But once you sink your teeth into one, you'll get over your hesitation fast.
5. Hilltop Cakes, 918 Bridge St., Miles City
The owner of Hilltop Cakes got her start baking custom cakes for her kids after she got tired of the generic designs at the local chain stores. Her business took off, and in 2017, she opened a retail shop to sell her beautiful creations. The shop also sells frozen yogurt, so you'll have your choice of treats when you go. Have you ever put frozen yogurt on a cupcake?
6. For Heaven's Cakes, 102 N Main St. suite B, Butte
We know what you're thinking... the name is cute, but how are the cakes? Don't worry, they're absolutely delightful.
7. Vanilla Bean Bakery & Cafe, 201 N Rodney St., Helena
With 18 mouthwatering flavors of cupcakes to choose from (some of which are seasonal), it's no wonder Vanilla Bean is a local favorite. And when you go to pick up your freshly baked treats, you can enjoy a tasty lunch in the cafe as well.
8. Sweet Pea Bakery, 2622 W Main St. Ste 1-B, Bozeman
The cupcakes at Sweet Pea Bakery can only be described as edible works of art. Everything is made from scratch here, and it shows. Aside from their storefront on Main Street, you can get their treats at several grocery stores and coffee shops in the Bozeman area.
9. Hi-Line Cakes, 233 4th St. S., Glasgow
Don't let the simple storefront fool you -- the team at Hi-Line Cakes delivers outstanding confectionary creations, including cupcakes to die for.
10. Rae Rae's Bakery, 1505 Rehberg Lane, Ste. F, Billings
Everyone who has a food allergy or is sensitive to gluten knows how hard it can be to find treats that actually taste good. Luckily, mother-daughter team Tina and Krista have managed to make their desserts taste amazing without gluten, soy or preservatives.
11. Cakes by Debi, 605 Twilight Cir, Kalispell
Everyone in Kalispell knows that when you need a special occasion cake or perfectly decorated cupcakes, you call Debi. As one of the longest established cake bakers and decorators in the Flathead Valley, they've earned a (well-deserved) great reputation.
Cupcakes are definitely one of life’s greatest inventions.
Donuts are another.
