We might be a bit biased, but it sure feels like Montana is the best place to enjoy the holiday season. Between the small town street parades, the dazzling light displays, the craft fairs, and bazaars, it's tough not to get into the holiday spirit when you live in the Treasure State. But as much as we love experiences like ZooLights and other traditions, a trip to the Conrad Mansion this time of year is what really makes the season feel magical.
This was the Conrad family home for decades before it became the historical museum it is today. The mansion has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1975.
Each November, the mansion closes down for several weeks to give the staff time to prepare for the holiday season.
They reopen around the first of December when the halls have been thoroughly decked.
When you visit during December, you can pay a small fee for a guided tour or take a self-guided tour.
Whether you opt to learn more about the mansion's history or you'd rather explore it on your own, you'll be impressed by the dazzling decor.
Guided tours are typically offered from Wednesday - Saturday.
You can book your tour ahead of time or try to join one when you arrive.
In addition to the guided and self-guided tours, the mansion is hosting a few fun holiday events before the end of the year.
On December 3rd, 4th, and 5th, 2021, you can visit for A Christmas Carol Radio Broadcast. Once inside, you'll be treated to the live radio version of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, based on Orson Welles’ original play. Actors from the Gypsy Theatre Guild will be on the second floor while you listen from the Great Hall.
The Conrad Mansion is always beautiful. But at Christmastime, it's downright magical.
Stop by and see it for yourself.
