For a beautiful drive through Montana, be sure to check out Highway 2. Running across all of northern Montana, this route goes through some of the loveliest small towns and has some of the most stunning scenery. If you were to drive without stopping, it would take over 11 hours to take this route. So for those who want to enjoy the entire route, we recommend breaking it up over a long weekend.

U.S. Highway 2 extends approximately 666.6 miles east-west across the entire state of Montana. You can start at the Idaho border and drive across all of Montana to reach its border with North Dakota.

Along the way, you will see some beautiful scenery. Pictured here is McGregor Lake, which you can see from the highway. Of note, this northern corridor passes through three reservations, and is nearby two others.

Most of Highway 2 through Montana runs alongside the BNSF Railway's Northern Transcon Route. The scenery changes while you drive through the state and it is amazing to see all the different and unique landscapes.

After exiting the Rocky Mountains, Highway 2 begins its journey through Montana's northern plains and Hi-Line area. Check out the small town of Shelby when passing through this part of the majestic state.

After Shelby, the route goes through a string of small towns, the Fort Belknap Indian Reservation, and the Fort Peck Indian Reservation. Pass by the final town of Bainville before heading into North Dakota. It's a drive you will never forget.
