Adolphus Busch came to St. Louis with his brothers in 1857 and married Lilly Anheuser in 1861. With his father-in law, Eberhard Anheuser, Busch founded the Anheuser-Busch brewing company in 1879. Adolphus’ son, August Busch Sr., took over the company after his father’s death in 1913. Busch Sr. decided that he needed a place to stop and rest on his 15 mile journey home from the brewery. So, in 1917 the Bevo Mill was erected.
