One Of The Most Haunted Cemeteries In Missouri Is Also The Most Beautiful
Cemeteries are traditionally quiet, peaceful places, where we go to remember and honor our loved ones. However, it’s quite common to hear stories of hauntings at many of the nation’s cemeteries, especially those with long and storied histories. This cemetery in Missouri, a must-visit if you’re in the area, just might be the most beautiful and the most haunted.
Although it started with a modest five acres in 1867, Springfield National Cemetery has more than tripled in size during its rich history.
A stroll through the cemetery reveals some of its past with Civil War soldiers buried on the hallowed grounds. It was in Springfield, after all, that The Battle of Wilson Creek took place in 1861.
More than 17,000 soldiers - 12,000 Confederate soldiers and 5,000+ Union soldiers - fought in the battle that saw the Confederates claim victory.
Both sides suffered nearly the same amount of casualties, both just over 1,000. Many of those who died would later be buried in Springfield National Cemetery.
As you stroll along the grounds, you'll pass various monuments that pay homage to those who perished during the Battle of Wilson Creek and the survivors of Pearl Harbor.
You may also notice some weird occurences. After all, countless visitors tell tales of seeing the apparitions of Civil War soldiers who wander the cemetery grounds.
Don't be too surprised if odd lights pop up in the photos you take; if you see glowing orbs, or eerie lights around headstones. That's all par for the course at this haunted cemetery.
