The Old Watermill Fish Camp In Mississippi Has Been Serving Delicious Fried Catfish And All The Trimmings Since 1973

From the atmosphere to the fare, a classic fish house experience awaits at Old Watermill Fish Camp. Withstanding the test of time, the restaurant has been in the business of catfish since the 1970s! And after one visit, it’s easy to see why it’s remained a local favorite throughout the decades. Take a look:

Most fish houses are tucked away in small towns, and that’s exactly the case with Old Watermill Fish Camp, which is in Ellisville, where it’s been since opening in 1973.

A visit to the small town gem is a treat right from the start since it’s located next to a watermill from the 1800s – hence the name.

Throughout the decades, the watermill has served as a rice mill, grist mill, sawmill, and cotton gin.
The restaurant, particularly the farm-raised catfish, was a hit right from the start.

Initially, owner R.F. Lowry planned to sell farm-raised catfish that he produced; however, he was unable to keep up with customer demand and had to start purchasing Mississippi farm-raised catfish from other producers.
Today, just like all those years ago, the eatery still serves Mississippi farm-raised catfish.

But catfish isn’t the only longtime menu staple – there’s also the eatery’s famous coleslaw, which is made using a secret family recipe.
Sure to satisfy catfish aficionados, the perfectly prepped fish is available whole, filleted, fried, and broiled.

And since it comes in 1/2-pound and 1-pound servings, you’re sure to get your fill.
Catfish may be what draws in the crowds, but it’s just one of the eatery’s many palate-pleasing offerings.
