Located In A Tiny Mississippi Town Of About 300, Grit Is An Unexpected Culinary Gem

Nothing cures a case of the winter blues like a hearty helping of comfort food. (They don’t call it comfort food for nothing, ya know.) And while the Magnolia State’s got lots of restaurants that specialize in comforting cuisine, none quite compare to GRIT. Take a look:

In terms of tiny towns, it doesn’t get much smaller than Taylor, MS, which has a population of about 300!

The tiny town has a big reputation, though, and that’s because it’s home to the popular eatery, Taylor Grocery. However, Taylor Grocery isn’t the only travel worthy eatery in Taylor.

In 2016, Taylor’s culinary scene grew with the opening of GRIT.

Fittingly, the small town eatery is housed in a small, cozy building in Taylor’s charming Plein Air neighborhood.

Step inside, and you’ll find an inviting dining area that’s the perfect mix of industrial and rustic.

Aside from the comfy atmosphere, it’s the menu of comfort foods that’ll make you feel right at home. But GRIT doesn’t serve your typical Southern dishes.

Instead, the eatery focuses on “sophisticated Southern cuisine.”

But don’t let the word “sophisticated” fool you. Though the dishes feature unique twists, they’re based off of traditional southern recipes that have been passed down for generations.

Merging tradition and experimentation, the dishes at GRIT feature the best of both worlds – familiarity along with exciting new flavors.

Open for brunch, lunch, and dinner, the tasty offering includes something for all palettes. The brunch fare includes regional faves, like shrimp and grits and chicken and waffles.

Sure to hit the spot, the lunch offering includes an array of quick eats, including burgers and sandwiches. There are also specials, like the Fried Egg Pimento Cheese and Ham Sandwich.

The late night fare is just as tantalizing and includes everything from chicken and steak to elk and quail.
