You might not think it’s possible to love the sweltering temperatures that come along with the summer season, but that’s just because you haven’t discovered the perfect swim spot. Lucky for you, we found some stunning waterfalls that make it a whole lot easier to embrace the season.
Good things really do come in small packages – and these small falls prove it! Even better, they're located in Merit Water Park, a natural water park with a spring-fed creek and old-fashioned swimming hole. The park also has picnic tables and a sand and rock creek-side beach. Another natural water park, D’Lo Water Park is centered around the Strong River. A top choice for swimming, canoeing, and kayaking, the river is known for its leisurely flow and several small falls. Okatoma Creek is most known for its canoeing and kayaking opportunities, but that wasn’t always the case. At one time, it was known for its abundance of waterfalls. In fact, Seminary Falls used to be referred to as "the falls on Okatoma." There are several outfitters on the creek, making it easy to get some close-up views of the falls. There’s no better place to gaze upon waterfalls in Mississippi than Clark Creek Nature Area. The 700-acre area is home to dozens of falls, which range in height from 10 feet to more than 30 feet. Some falls are seasonal and others can be viewed year-round. For the best waterfall views, take the 1.78-mile improved trail. It’s dotted with several year-round waterfalls. Don’t let the summer season pass without a visit to Dunn’s Falls. Located in Dunn’s Falls Water Park, the 65-foot waterfall is the state’s tallest. The best part is that it can be viewed from above AND below, which means you can splash around in the pool at its base.
