For this great river hike in Minnesota, head to the Ray Berglund Wayside and Recreation Site in Tofte. It is right off the Voyageur Highway in Northeastern Minnesota along Lake Superior.
The Onion River Trail is an easy 1.1-mile out-and-back trail. While most of the trail is flat, there is a 53-step staircase at the beginning of the trail by the parking lot, so it is unsuitable for strollers or those with mobility difficulties.
The trail follows along the Onion River on a path high above the water. The sound of the water below truly pulls you into nature.
