From the bright colored leaves to the Halloween fun, autumn is many a favorite for many folks in the Land of 10,000 Lakes. If you're looking for fun things to do in Minnesota in October — or any of the other autumn months — check out a few of our favorite places to visit in Minnesota in fall.
1. Duluth/North Shore
Duluth and all of Minnesota's North Shore are the premier places to view the most beautiful fall foliage in the country. If you haven't taken a road trip up the shore yet this year, now is the time!
2. University of Minnesota Landscape Arboretum
Another wonderful place to look at foliage, the University of Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, located in Chaska, is spectacularly colorful this time of the year. Walk through 1,200 acres of lovely fall colors this year.
3. Huntington Bank Stadium, University of Minnesota
Not only is the University of Minnesota beautiful in the fall, but it's football season for both U of M and the Vikings at TCF this year. So go ahead, and tailgate away!
4. New Ulm
The best Oktoberfest in MN, you have to head to New Ulm for some fall festivities. It's the perfect spot for a trip this season.
5. Anoka

6. Stillwater
Stillwater Harvest Fest is always a good time during the month of October. Visit during the festival and enjoy two days packed with giant pumpkins and family-friendly fun!
7. Valley Scare, Valleyfair, Shakopee
Valley Scare is the best event of the year at Valleyfair Amusement Park in Shakopee. It's always worth a visit, especially to ride the rides at night, attend spooky live shows, and make your way through a haunted maze.
8. Alexandria
The tiny, charming town of Alexandria, Minnesota, is another great spot that turns into a wonderland of color during the fall. Don't forget your camera!
9. St. Croix River
Anywhere on the St. Croix makes a beautiful fall hike or drive. Some of the best colors can be found meandering north of the Twin Cities.
10. The Closest Minnesota State Park

12. Local Pumpkin Patches
And head to the nearest Minnesota Pumpkin Patch for hayrides, corn mazes, and so much more, and get to carving those pumpkins. Nothing says October like carving a jack'o lantern, roasting pumpkin seeds, and baking a pumpkin pie.
