Here in Minnesota, there are plenty of up-and-coming establishments that open up every week. While these spots add both entertainment options and vitality to the economy, sometimes it's nice to go somewhere with a history. We've given you Minnesota's oldest restaurant, but what about Minnesota's oldest bar? It's been around for well over a century, and it's still one of the best spots for live entertainment, a cold beer, and a decent meal. A step into Neumann's Bar is a step back in history.
Neumann's Bar is located at 2531 7th Avenue East in North St. Paul, Minnesota.
Like the door declares, this bar has been around since 1887. That's over 130 years of history!
The bar started as a place to serve Hamm's, a beer that was first created in St. Paul. It's still on tap at Neumann's to this day.
As you might imagine, the bar has seen some interesting times. It even survived Prohibition. The downstairs bar served near-beer, while a speakeasy thrived upstairs.
When Prohibition finally ended in 1933, the bar kept at it. It saw through the entire 20th century, from WWII to the New Millennium - and beyond.
Today, every wall of the bar is steeped in history. Everywhere you look, you'll see reminders of the past.
If you're hungry, stop in for a bite to eat. The menu is full of favorites from burgers to breakfast.
But at the very least, grab a drink. Whether it's a pint of Hamm's or something a little stronger, you'll appreciate the chance to drink in this bar's history.
Over 130 years after its first opening, Neumann's is the oldest bar in Minnesota. Stop in for a glimpse of Minnesota's long history.
