This One Beautiful Michigan Lake Has A Beach That Rivals The Coast
The Mitten State is well known for its lovely beaches on the Great Lakes. With Michigan’s lakes being the largest freshwater system in the world, we can see why it’s so famous. But many Michiganders love our inland lakes even more because they aren’t as well known. This inland lake in Marenisco, Michigan, is so vast and beautiful, it rivals any of the Great Lakes beaches… and even our country’s top coastal beaches!
Lake Gogebic is Michigan’s largest inland lake located on the Upper Peninsula's western edge.
The massive lake spans over 13,000 acres and even changes time zones. The northern half of the lake is in the Eastern Time Zone and the southern half is in the Central Time Zone.
Whether you want to visit for the day or spend the night camping, Lake Gogebic State Park is the perfect place to stop and explore. The 360-acre park is on the western shore of Lake Gogebic and has nearly a mile of lake frontage.
This four-season spot has plenty of outdoor activities to choose from including fishing, hiking, hunting, and winter sports. The day-use area of the state park has a picnic area, boat launch, playground equipment, and a swimming beach.
Perhaps the best part of visiting the state park is that you can set up camp right on the water. A quarter of the available campsites are on the lakefront and the remaining campsites are beneath a tree canopy, still close to the lake.
Though Lake Gogebic has many attractions and reasons to visit, it maintains a quiet and peaceful atmosphere without the traffic and crowds of the most popular Great Lake beaches.
