There’s nothing better than a hearty serving of traditional Mexican cuisine. When hunger strikes, it’s tough to beat the authentic spices and flavors that make this fare so fantastic – and we Michiganders are lucky to have access to plenty of marvelous Mexican eateries. The next time you’re in the mood for a truly delicious meal, make your way to one of these nine laid-back restaurants.

During your next visit to Michigan’s second-largest city, venture to this lovely locale for an incredible meal. 2. Amigo’s Mexican Restaurant (22085 West Rd, Woodhaven)
Stop in for a fantastic meal among cozy surroundings at Amigo’s, where you’ll truly feel like a friend as soon as you arrive. Since 1983, Amigo’s has taken pride in serving up fresh Mexican fare with friendly service, and you’ll surely notice this dedication to quality. Munch on chimichangas, traditional tacos, or flautas as you mingle with loved ones.
3. Oyé Amigos (307 E Michigan Ave, Marshall)
The lovely town of Marshall offers plenty of dining options, but it’s hard to beat the flavors you’ll encounter when you sit down at Oyé Amigos. The restaurant’s interior is unfussy and simply decorated, but the dishes are layered with all sorts of mouthwatering ingredients. It’s no secret that Detroit is home to plenty of amazing Mexican eateries in its Mexicantown district, and we can’t help but highlight the many draws of Señor Lopez. This casual spot prides itself on truly authentic meals in a relaxed environment, and your taste buds are in for a real treat. Chiles rellenos, mushroom fajitas, carne asada tacos… the list of options continues.
5. Rodeo Mexican Kitchen (200 Pearl St #7, Houghton)
This Upper Peninsula gem is the perfect place to stop when you’re ready to refuel after a long day of exploring the great outdoors. Here at Rodeo, you’ll have the chance to build your own meal and create a delectable combination of flavors. Whether you choose a bowl, posole, a burrito, a salad, nachos, or a plate of tacos, you’ll leave this spot with a happy stomach.
6. Margarita’s (495 W 17th St, Holland)
Situated just a stone’s throw from Lake Macatawa, this longtime Holland eatery is home to friendly service, a family-operated kitchen, and some of the most incredible Mexican fare you’ve ever encountered. The interior of the eatery is unfussy and the portions are generous - what’s not to love?
7. Elvira’s (829 Saginaw Rd, Sanford)
You’ll adore the colorful decor at this fantastic little restaurant in Sanford, which always delights with its tasty fare and high-quality service. Dig into a plate of freshly prepared tacos, munch on chips and salsa as you peruse the menu, or opt for a massive burrito. No matter how many times you’ve visited, you’re sure to be enamored with this spot.
8. La Huasteca (1811 Plainfield Ave NE, Grand Rapids)
This Grand Rapids fixture features a humble yet welcoming atmosphere, along with some of the most mouthwatering eats imaginable. Made with recipes that have been passed down through generations, the food here is undeniably authentic - and you’ll be happily full in no time at all, whether you opt for tamales, quesadillas, enchiladas, or something in between.

If you find yourself in Ypsilanti, you simply must drop in for a meal at Taqueria La Marqueza.
