7 Places In Michigan That Are Like A Caribbean Paradise In The Summer
You don’t have to hop on a plane and spend your entire paycheck to enjoy a tropical-themed getaway. Here in the Great Lakes State, we’re lucky to have convenient access to an array of destinations and attractions that offer Caribbean vibes on a budget. From restaurants to beaches, these seven spots will make you feel as if you’ve stepped off a plane onto a faraway island.

1. Torch Lake (Antrim County)
Renowned for its brilliant blue water, Torch Lake is one of the most picturesque inland gems in the state. In fact, non-Michiganders might mistake your photos of Torch Lake for a tropical island somewhere far away. There are 19 miles of shoreline to explore here, whether you’re renting a cottage or accessing the water via Torch Lake Township Day Park. The Caribbean vibes are impossible to deny.

If nautical decor and delicious food are two of your favorite things, the Deck Down Under undoubtedly deserves a spot on your Michigan bucket list. 3. Oval Beach (690 Perryman St, Saugatuck)
Venture to the quaint Saugatuck/Douglas region of West Michigan for an unforgettable shoreline adventure at Oval Beach, a long-reigning favorite that has earned accolades from all sorts of travel publications throughout the years. Upon arriving, you’ll be taken by the beach’s soft white sands, stunning blue water, and family-friendly environment. Bring along your camera, as you’ll want to remember these views.
4. Max’s South Seas Hideaway (58 Ionia Ave SW, Grand Rapids)
Max’s takes the tiki bar experience to an entirely new level. This Grand Rapids treasure offers the ultimate tropical atmosphere without venturing outside the Great Lakes State, and you’ll wonder why it took you so long to stop by. 5. Sand Point Beach (Alger County)

During your two-hour excursion, which can accommodate up to six passengers, you’ll sip your own beverages and appreciate the warm weather alongside a knowledgeable captain.

You might not expect to spot palm trees here in Michigan, but the Score in Grand Rapids is all about defying expectations.
