Ghost hunters and vacationers alike will love staying at this historic haunted inn on Cape Cod.
The Orleans Waterfront Inn has been around for 145 years. Built in 1875 as a sea captain’s mansion, the building has served as a boarding house and inn since the early 1900s.
The ghost stories about this place are equal parts thrilling and chilling. Over the years, guests have claimed to feel inexplicable gusts of cold air and have heard disembodied footsteps.
In fact, at a Chatham High School reunion party held at the inn several years ago, the owner of the inn claims to have snapped a photograph that includes one of the inn’s resident spooks: Hannah.
Ed Maas, the inn’s current owner, reportedly saw the ghostly form of Hannah creep down the inn’s main staircase. According to Maas, she was completely nude.
The inn also received a phone call from a passerby who advised that curtains should be installed in the fifth-floor guest room, as he could see a nude, dancing woman through the window. At the time, there was no guest staying on the fifth floor.
Even if you’re not into tales of the supernatural, you’re sure to appreciate the inn’s stellar waterfront location and comfortable lodgings. The on-site restaurant serves traditional Cape Cod fare, though you should call ahead to make sure the restaurant is open before visiting.
