Drone Footage Captured At This Abandoned Massachusetts Hospital Is Truly Grim

There’s something about abandoned places that inspires the imagination as well as plenty of goosebumps. In this drone video by YouTube user “Matt L,” we’re taken high above a grim site of modern ruin. This abandoned hospital in Massachusetts is plagued with a dark history and is, today, as eerie as it is strangely beautiful.

Boston Regional Medical Center was a former hospital in Stoneham. It was founded in 1899 and was originally known as New England Sanitarium and Hospital. The hospital was a Seventh-day Adventist facility and had 187 beds. In 1999, the hospital closed for financial reasons. It has been left empty and abandoned for almost 20 years. The interior is hazardous due to high levels of asbestos, but that doesn’t stop some brave souls from checking it out anyway.

Take a look at the drone video below to see a bird’s-eye view of the abandoned structure in all its spooky glory:

Urban exploration can be very dangerous, so always make sure you are legally able to enter a property and that you’re dressed appropriately for poking around abandoned places. Do not trespass, vandalize, or otherwise alter these places in any way; it’s very important that we keep them intact and interesting for explorers to enjoy for decades to come. There’s a certain kind of respect owed to these old structures; their value is in their history, the symbolism behind their existence, and so much more.

Abandoned Hospital in Massachusetts

What are some good places for urban exploration in Massachusetts?

Massachusetts is one of the best states in the entire country – though we might be a little bit biased. It’s a place filled with amazing history, scenic landscapes, four beautiful seasons, and so much more, including a decently sized stockpile of amazing, abandoned places just waiting to be discovered. Among our favorite abandoned places in Massachusetts are gems like Danvers State Hospital, just outside of Boston, Fernald State School, which is known for its appalling history and intriguing look, Taunton State Hospital (we’re beginning to sense a pattern here), Steinert Hall, and North Truro Air Force Station, and so many more. Need some more info on a particularly amazing place? Check this article out! You might just learn something new.

Where are some photogenic places in Massachusetts?

Like we said above, Massachusetts is an amazing place, and one of the reasons for this is its extraordinarily photogenic landscapes. It’s a wonderful state to unleash your inner photographer! We have so many favorite places that it’s hard to choose just a few, but we can try. Among our picks for the most photogenic places in Massachusetts are amazing spots like the Berkshires, world-famous for their beauty and the amazing waterfalls contained therein. Cape Cod is also world-famous, and for many reasons – this makes it a major must-see. If you’re a fan of coastal sunrises and sunsets, you’ll want to check out Easter Point Lighthouse, located in Gloucester. Martha’s Vineyard is an incredibly photogenic place (yet another that’s famous for its beauty, among other things), and Race Point Beach might just eat up all of your SD card space. Fans of history will love exploring the Old Sturbridge Village, Nantucket, Deerfield, and the Plimoth Plantation. Massachusetts is an amazing place – so get out and explore ASAP!
