This protected 67-acre reservation is a mere 13 miles north of Boston. The main beach here, Long Beach, ticks the three “C”s of Boston beach access: it’s close to the city, offers clean sand, and has clear water.

However, it remains somewhat overlooked. People tend to either stop as soon as they reach Revere Beach or keep driving until Cape Ann or points beyond.
Nahant Beach Reservation is also hidden in terms of geography because it’s part of a peninsula - you can cruise right by without ever realizing it’s there.

That being said, the beach’s parking lot can still get crowded; if you don’t mind a walk, there is street parking in the area.
Visit at low tide when the expanse of pale sand dramatically increases and there’s plenty of room for everyone.

Long Beach is located just off Nahant Road. From the heart of Boston, the drive takes a little over half an hour in moderate traffic conditions. Visit the DCR website for more information or to plan your route via the MBTA.

Compared to many Massachusetts beaches, parking is reasonable for residents – $10 for in-state plates, $20 for out-of-state visitors.
