It never fails. Every time I write a hole-in-the-wall restaurant article, the comments section explodes with mentions and accolades for Sunshine General Store. While I’ve already included this drool-worthy place in this list of the best burgers in Maryland, this list of notable general stores, AND they were #1 in this article, let’s talk about exactly why locals go crazy for the juicy burgers at this unsuspecting general store.

Just by glancing at this building in Brookeville, you'd have no idea that this spot sells some of the most delicious burgers in Maryland.

A peek at the front door reveals that they only accept cash so make sure you come prepared.

Once inside, you're greeted with a tiny dining area with shabby-looking stools. The scent of burgers lingers in the air.

Although there are other items on the menu, there is only one thing you'll want to order.

What is it that makes these burgers so epic? Perhaps it's how thick the burger actually is. The meat to *everything else* ratio is quite impressive.

Or maybe they taste better because everyone knows a sloppy burger is a better burger.

Bacon lovers swoon over the bacon cheeseburger, which always seems to be the perfect amount of crispy and greasy.
