If you love the Old Line State, then there’s no better place to soak in all things Maryland than Annapolis. Not only is it the capital city, but this place and its residents are full of state pride. Read on to see what makes Annapolis so special.
First of all, you'll likely see Maryland flags proudly displayed on many houses, restaurants, and shops.
Sometimes Annapolis even lines the entire street with red, gold, and black.
Because of the proximity to water, there are many boaters in the area and even boating events.
There's also an annual Christmas Lights Boat Parade that's both quirky and fun.
Annapolis is filled with Maryland history, from its political buildings, to the Naval Academy, and even the bars and restaurants.
And speaking of the restaurants, there's no better place to chow down on a classic Maryland meal than in Annapolis. It's not difficult to find steamed crabs, oysters, crab cakes, and more. Come hungry!
There are dozens of boutiques that are perfect for a day of warm-weathered shopping. Several of them include touristy items, such as Maryland flag patterned clothing, car magnets, and crab-themed home decor.
Be sure to stay up to date on the Annapolis
events page. There's almost always something going on and many of the festivals include local breweries, wineries, and food trucks.
The sights extend beyond downtown. There are several nearby areas that are great for exploring outdoors, including Sandy Point State Park.
While most out-of-towners think of Baltimore when envisioning what Maryland is like, locals know that Annapolis is truly the heart of the Old Line State. If you've never visited, plan your trip asap. You won't be disappointed.
