This infamous battlefield is home to Bloody Lane and other iconic sites. 23,000 soldiers were killed, wounded, or missing during the Battle of Antietam, making this a haunting, yet fascinating place to explore.

DC isn't the only place with a Washington Monument -- Maryland is actually home to two! The first on our list can be found at Washington Monument State Park. Last but not least is the Maryland State House in Annapolis. Dating back to 1772, it's known as the oldest U.S. state capitol in continuous legislative use. It's open to the public for self-guided tours.
