Head to the western portion near Oldtown and you'll soon discover the historic Paw Paw Tunnel. It's located near milepost 155.2.

This structure dates back to 1836, originally built for canal boats to pass through.

After 14 years of construction, it was used from 1850 until 1924. With construction taking so long, many tales of disgruntled workers came about, and some say men were even murdered inside the tunnel.

Today, you can still walk through Paw Paw Tunnel. It's a common route for hikers, cyclists, or those hoping to experience a ghostly encounter.
