When the snow starts to build up in the Pite Tree State, it’s time to take out the sleds and hit your favorite spots. And, with a thick layer coating the well-maintained trails, you can fly through the forest. There is something compelling about the speed and the elements that make snowmobiles so much fun. Time to rev up your engines! Let’stake a look at the longest snowmobile trail in Maine.
The Maine Interconnected trail system or ITS for short is a massive network with over 4,000 miles of groomed snowmobile trails.
The map here will show you the major routes around the state in red and the connected trails in green. You can clearly see that most of the state is covered by this collective trail system.
You can travel through towns and several landscapes with miles and miles of open trails.
When you arrive in the open field, you will have free reign to fly down the trail. There is nothing quite like the rush of a speeding sled ripping through the snow with the roar of the engine felt at your fingertips.

The trail will have you weaving in and out of wooded areas, alongside lakes, and over massive stretches of open land.
The trail is all made possible by local snowmobile clubs pairing with local governments, Maine businesses, and land owners who graciously allow traffic through their property. The maintenance of the trails is handled by the area's snowmobile clubs. There are over 280 snowmobile clubs throughout Maine.
Businesses throughout Maine have great options to rent out one for the day. Places like Northeast Snowmobiles in Fryeburg will allow you to take to the western sections of the ITS. You will have plenty of views of the snowcapped White Mountains in the background or even take it along the mountains themselves into New Hampshire.
