The Most Whimsical Restaurant In Maine Belongs On Your Bucket List
Over the past few years, Maine has become known as a culinary destination. From lobster rolls to ice cream, there’s something for everyone. We probably don’t mean that literally, unless we’re talking about the restaurant in today’s article. This place is both whimsical and funky, healthy and decadent. It’s got something for everyone, including slices of cake that are as big as your head. And, while love hyperbole around here, we mean the cake thing very literally.
Silly’s got its start in 1988 on Cumberland Avenue, in the building now occupied by Katie Made Bakery.
Flavors like: Chocolate with chocolate frosting, chocolate with Bailey's frosting, lemon with black raspberry frosting, almond with strawberry frosting, chocolate with mint frosting, vegan chocolate with caramel frosting and salted almonds...we could go on and on!
Love the look of this? You'll love things like the Caribbean hash with sweet & white potatoes, veggies, sweet fried plantains, jerk seasoning and fried eggs.
For more action, order the fried jalapenos that come with sour cream.
The whimsy of Silly’s comes not only from the fun decor, but as you can gather from this article, it also comes from the many different meals and desserts available. It’s a difficult feeling to describe in writing, but a trip to Silly’s will bring you back in time, fill your belly up and make you feel like you’re part of a community…all at the same time!
Silly’s is located at 40 Washington Avenue in Portland, Maine 04101. You can call them on (207) 772-0360 and check them out online here.
Michelle has lived in many places, but counts Maine as one of the best. In addition to the smell of ocean water in the air on rainy days in Portland, she loves puppies, photography, funny people, the Maine Red Claws, traveling, fresh tomatoes, Cambodia and filling out forms.
