Michelle has lived in many places, but counts Maine as one of the best. In addition to the smell of ocean water in the air on rainy days in Portland, she loves puppies, photography, funny people, the Maine Red Claws, traveling, fresh tomatoes, Cambodia and filling out forms. Over the last few years, Maine has truly made a name for itself as one of the best craft brewing spots in the nation. According to Smartasset, In Portland alone there are 5.5 breweries per 100,000 people making it the the highest rate per capita of any city in America. Pretty impressive for a state that some people think is a part of Canada! While there are many from which to choose, consider making a trip to this small farmhouse brewery located in Waldoboro.
Odd Alewives Farm Brewery is located on Old Route One in Waldoboro, just down the street from Moody's Diner.
The tiny brewery is owned and operated by founders John and Sarah McNeil, who wanted to craft a beer that both refreshes and and sustains the body and mind.
It's a mix of their professed love for the oddballs among us as well as an homage to alewives found in the nearby Medomak River, which are declining in population.
The ales here focus on "the honesty of the product, variability of the seasons, and purity of the ingredients."
