Maine's food scene has absolutely exploded over the last few years. Vacationland was once only a destination for things like seafood and lobster shacks. But today, foodies flock here for the specialty restaurants and gourmet options that exist in virtually every county. While we love the opportunity to try new things, sometimes it's nice to simply enjoy the restaurants that have stood the test of time. This timeless restaurant in Waldoboro is one that has stood the test of time, consistently keeping bellies full and hearts happy.
Moody's Diner has been a Waldoboro institution since 1927.
Moody's began as a few $1 cabins for weary travelers heading north on US 1.
It eventually expanded to include the, now famous, diner.
By 1987, when this photo was taken, Percy and Bertha Moody's lunch wagon had become the full-fledged diner it is today.
A gift shop was added in 1998, for folks to bring home a little piece of this Maine diner.
And the seating went from this...
...to 104 seats, making sure that virtually nobody is left out!
But, while we love the history, let's face it - the food is what we're here for!
From blueberry pancakes to lunches like the grilled chicken deluxe with sweet potato fries and coleslaw.
And don't forget the hot turkey sandwich covered in gravy.
Or, the diner favorite: Moody's reuben sandwich with a side of onion rings & coleslaw!
And, when you're done indulge in any of the many homemade pies!
Including this, the frozen peanut butter pie on a chocolate cookie crust, topped with homemade whipped cream, and hot fudge!
Moody's serves up plenty of Maine favorites too, like the Moxie float.
And, the Maine whoopie pie!
While 90 years in operation means a lot of upgrades, the Maine hometown vibe still exists at this roadside diner.
For a hearty dose of that hometown vibe, make sure to visit during Founder's Week in February, when the Moody family celebrates their heritage and offers lots of discounts to loyal customers.
For over 9 decades, Moody's Diner has truly been a timeless part of Maine's mid-coast history.
