Our beautiful state is absolutely packed with gorgeous trails and majestic waterfalls. Sometimes, it can be a pleasant surprise to go on a hiking trail in Maine and be surprised by a beautiful little waterfall. This breathtaking trail is a joy to hike and you’ll find tiny waterfalls along the way that will fill you with peace and an appreciation for nature’s surprises.
Duck Brook Trail is an easy, two-mile, out-and-back trail that starts at a beautiful bridge in Acadia National Park on the outskirts of Bar Harbor, Maine.
Built in 1929, this is a carriage bridge that was built by John D. Rockefeller and is a bit of a local landmark. The trail is quite a popular one, yet it is often quieter than you might expect.
This view of the trail from above shows what kind of natural beauty you can expect once you start down the path. The sound of the wind rustling through the branches, the singing of birds, and the trickling of the stream are so relaxing.
It’s gorgeous any time of year but is especially breathtaking during the fall when the leaves change color and the flowing stream tumbles in little rivulets and micro-falls as you follow alongside it.
Despite being so close to town, you’re likely to encounter wildlife on this trail like deer, squirrels, falcons, eagles, foxes, beavers, frogs, turtles, and more.
The tiny waterfalls along the trail are a delight to see and are like mini versions of some of Maine’s most spectacular cascades. Rather than a rushing roar, you’ll hear a calming trickle that will wash your worries away.
When the water is really flowing, these diminutive waterfalls are even more beautiful and impressive. They make this trail such a wonderful experience - it’s no wonder locals love it so much.
