Check Out These 10 Beaches For Beautiful Maine Sea Glass

Sea glass is produced naturally when the glass of broken bottles and other miscellaneous objects lost in the sea are rolled and tumbled in the ocean for years. Eventually, the edges of these pieces are rounded and made smooth, and the previously shiny glass takes on a frosted appearance. Based on ocean currents and tides, these pieces of glass wash ashore, awaiting beachcombers who come and take them to be re-purposed.

There are lots of spots in Maine where you can find your very own specimen. Here are just a few of the best ones to try! Remember, searching for sea glass requires patience, as well as trial and error. One person might report having a great haul on Saturday, only to go back Sunday and return with nothing. If you can’t find anything, it’s just an excuse to come back another time!
