Houma Tunnel Is A Haunted Tunnel In Louisiana That Has A Dark History
The Houma Tunnel in Louisiana is considered one of the most haunted tunnels in the state, with reports of ghost sightings and spooky experiences.
Even if you've lived in Louisiana for years, there's a good chance that you've never driven through a tunnel in Louisiana. That's because there are only three tunnels in the whole state---and all of them are a pretty unique experience. But of all the tunnels, it's the Houma Tunnel that has the most stories attached to it. Here are some of the reasons you may want to be careful driving through the Houma Tunnel, considered one of the most haunted tunnels in Louisiana.
The Houma Tunnel can be found on Hwy 3040, crossing under the intracoastal waterway.
If you've ever lived in Houma there is a good chance you've driven on it.
Technically called the Houma Intracoastal Waterway tunnel, there is currently some debate over whether the tunnel should remain or if there should be an overpass instead.
Could this be because there have been reports of hauntings on the tunnel?
Some drivers have reported seeing ghosts late at night in the tunnel, including the spirit of a woman who died in a tunnel crash many years ago.
In the 50 years this tunnel has been in operation, there have been a few memorable accidents.
This is also why many people keep the tradition of holding their breath as they go through the tunnel.
So no bad spirits can enter your body!
Another spooky spirit is known to haunt this tunnel as well.
That’s a water spirit that is not used to having people drive through the waterway. Some people say that if you don't show your respect, the water spirit could damage your car!
