1. Louisiana has the tallest state capitol building in the United States.
It’s 450 feet tall and 34 stories high.
2. The first opera performed in the United States was performed in New Orleans.
It was on May 22, 1796 at the Theatre de la Rue St. Pierre. The production was Sylvain by Andre Ernest Gretry.
3. Despite Louisiana’s reputation with booze, our official state drink is… milk.

4. Each of the Mardi Gras colors have their own meaning.
Purple stands for justice, gold is for power and green is for faith.
5. The St. Charles streetcar line in New Orleans is the oldest continuously operated streetcar in the world.
It’s been in operation since 1835.
6. It’s a $500 fine to have a pizza delivered to someone without them knowing.
So be sure to let them know ahead of time.
7. Everyone knows that Tabasco is made in Louisiana, but did you know that it holds the second oldest food trademark in the U.S. patent office?
Edmund McIlhenny secured the patent in 1870.
8. The only North-South facing cemetery in the country is here in Louisiana
It's located in Rayne, the Frog Capital of the World.
