Introducing the next generation to Louisiana's nature trails is always a good idea. Who knows, it may inspire the next environmentalist! When you want to get out of the house and enjoy an outdoor adventure, the Acadiana Park Nature Station has some of the best kid-friendly trails in Louisiana, perfect for even the tiniest of nature lovers.
You’ll find the Acadiana Park Nature Station in Lafayette, Louisiana.
The park serves two purposes: education and research. The park hosts several environmental education programs for kids of all ages, and they even have a program called the Fourth Grade Environmental Education Program where, every year, each and every fourth grade class in Lafayette Parish gets its own special day at the park to explore the trails, check out the live animal exhibits, and more.
The park boasts over 150 acres to explore, including six miles of nature trails.
The area is in a unique spot, sitting at the crossroads of two distinct ecosystems: the Gulf Coastal Tallgrass Prairie (or rather, what’s left of it) and the Mississippi River Floodplain.
The trails here will lead you through three major habitats: a bottomland hardwood forest, an oak-hickory forest, and the remnants of a tallgrass prairie.
There are a few different trails at the park, with the longest trail clocking in at four miles.
You can mix and match to fit your schedule.
And there are plenty of spots to sit for a spell along the way.
The majority of the trails are shaded by the towering trees above you.
Shaded trails are the best, especially during the warm-weather months down here.
You'll have some truly lovely scenery to enjoy, and even some waterfront views here and there.
It's definitely an enchanting place to spend the day!
