Only In Louisiana Can You Attend This Fantastical Festival
The Rougarou Festival is one of the most popular festivals in the state, and was named one of the top ten costume parties in the country by USA Today. It’s all going down this weekend, so clear your schedule because you won’t want to miss this.
This weekend (October 21-22) head over to downtown Houma for the Rougarou Fest.
Founded in 2012, the Rougarou Festival continues to grow and become one of the most epic festivals in Louisiana.
There will be food, drinks, and tons of live music for dancing the night away.
Carnival rides for the kids (and adults), crafts, face painting, rougarou storytelling, and so much more make this a jam packed weekend filled with activities the whole family will enjoy.
The face painting tent is always a huge hit.
To be honest, I’d totally get my face painted to look like this. Why should the kids have all the fun?
USA Today ranked the Rougarou Fest as one of the top 10 costume parties in the United States, so be sure to join in the fun and wear an awesome costume.
Registration begins at 2 p.m. on Saturday October 21, and the contest begins at 5 p.m. on the courthouse steps. Registration is free, and each category is limited to 100 contestants, so be sure to register early!
There will be winners for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each category.
And the winners will take home a trophy and bragging rights. The categories are: pets, most creative, funniest, scariest, movie characters, kids costume ages 5 and under, kids costume ages 6-12, and best overall.
After the contest, be sure to stick around for the parade at 7pm.
The Krewe Ga You Parade is one of the main attractions at the festival. There’ll be giant puppets, dancing zombies and witches, floats, specialty vehicles and classic cars, and much more. If Mardi Gras and Halloween had a baby, it would be this parade.
The festival opens on Saturday October 21, at 10am and ends on Sunday October 22 at 10pm
Their address is 7910 Park Avenue, Houma, LA 70360.
