If you're fascinated by Louisiana's swampy landscape and wildlife, there are hardly more fitting trails than the Old Barataria Trail. The hike is located within the Jean Lafitte National Historical Park in Marrero.
The trail is mostly flat and in some places, features a boardwalk. It's considered to be an easy, 4.3-mile loop, although visitors should note that hikers often report the trail as being partially flooded.
Be sure to stop by the visitor's center to learn about trail closures and alternative routes you can take to enjoy the scenery.
What makes the trail so unique is that it takes you to a portion of the swamp that you wouldn't otherwise be able to access easily.
