New Orleans is a beautiful place, there is no doubt about it. But I think the gardens at City Park Botanical Gardens are truly a little slice of paradise here in the city. If you haven't checked them out yet--take a look! They are simply gorgeous.
The New Orleans Botanical Gardens can be found in City Park.
The garden began as the City Park Rose Garden in 1936.
Eventually the grounds were funded by the Works Progress Administration.
This made the botanical gardens the first public classical garden in New Orleans. Numerous Art Deco influences can be found throughout.
There are more than 2,000 varieties of plants from around the world found in these gardens.
This Yakumo Nihon Teien Japanese Garden is just one of many different gardens on the grounds.
The gardens have made a remarkable recovery since Hurricane Katrina, where the majority of the plants in the gardens died.
The amazing help of volunteers and donors has allowed for the garden to flourish in the years since.
This butterfly bench is a favorite stop in the butterfly garden.
There are some truly gorgeous butterflies to be found throughout the grounds.
The collection of ferns in the greenhouse, pictured here, is truly special.
The tropical rain forest orchids are also breathtaking.
Many individuals use the gardens for weddings or other events.
There are numerous sculptures in the gardens that are very beautiful.
The gardeners here take amazing care of all of the flowers.
But my absolute favorite in the gardens is the lily pond!
They are so beautiful.
And of course, when the lights go on, the gardens simply come alive.
One visit to the gardens is sure to take your breath away.
You can visit 7 days a week from 10am to 5pm. The cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children.
And guess what? If you have a Louisiana state ID, you can enter the gardens for FREE on Wednesday! So definitely plan a day to check out this gorgeous place. You won't be disappointed.
