Destrehan Plantation is one of the most beautiful places in all of Louisiana—but it has also attracted its fair share of ghost stories and hauntings. Here is one of the most chilling ghost stoires that has come to light through investigations of this property.
Destrehan Plantation is found about 13 miles north of New Orleans, at 13034 River Road.
It's an incredible architectural marvel, exemplifying the Greek Revival style of the mid-1800s.
The grounds have been lovingly taken care of, and this plantation has quickly become one of the most popular wedding destinations in the greater New Orleans area.
But along with all of the joy and beauty, there have been some ghost tales that have haunted the area for years.
The most prominent tale is that of a former owner of this plantation, Stephen Henderson, who lived with his wife Elenore.
They were said to be deeply in love, but Elenore passed away unexpectedly at the age of 19.
Stephen was heartbroken, and died just a few years later, never falling in love again.
For some reason, though, his death did not reunite him with his love. Apparently, he found out that his beloved wife had been unfaithful to him, and this made him extremely jealous.
His anger can be felt by visitors here, as he haunts individuals looking for revenge on his broken heart.
Jean Lafitte, the famous pirate, is another ghost that supposedly haunts this plantation. He was a known and common visitor to Destrehan Plantation, where he had been known to have some friends.
Rumors began to spread that his buried treasure might be found here, and he has been reportedly seen lurking in the area, searching for it.
Many famous people have used the grounds here for movies, including most recently Beyonce's Lemonade album video, as well as Interview with the Vampire.
So next time you pay a visit to this beautiful plantation, consider the tales here.
There could be a ghost lurking behind one of the beautiful corners here!
