This Beautiful 440-Acre Botanical Garden In Louisiana Is A Sight To Be Seen
Sometimes, you just need to take a break and immerse yourself in the beautiful natural landscape that Louisiana has to offer. Tucked away in Baton Rouge is a peaceful botanic garden that’s both a great hands-on learning experience and the perfect relaxing attraction for when you need to unplug for a moment.
Right in the heart of Baton Rouge lies a hidden oasis that’s perfect for a springtime adventure.
The LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens are part of the Burden Museum & Gardens, which also consists of the Windrush Gardens and the Rural Life Museum.
The land was originally owned by the Burden family, who donated it to LSU in 1966.
Their stipulation upon donation was that the land and property be used for horticultural, agronomic, and environmental research, and to further develop the Rural Life Museum. They wanted to create a space for the community to enjoy - and that’s just what they did.
The LSU AgCenter Botanic Garden features 440 acres of beautiful forests and lush gardens that will simply mesmerize you.
And with so many plant species in bloom right now, it's the perfect time to get outside and do some exploring.
The gardens are a treat for the senses this time of year.
You can expect to see daffodils, irises, roses, and maybe even tulips and camellias.
There are several different gardens and trails to explore while you’re here.
Even the little ones will have a blast, so make it a family outing!
Burden Woods covers roughly 150 acres of the Botanic Gardens and will lead you through some spectacular scenery.
The bottomland hardwood forest leads you to a beautiful rain-fed wetland named the "Black Swamp," which is peppered with 200-year-old tupelo trees that will make you feel like you’re a thousand miles away from it all.
The gardens are great for hands-on learning experiences, too.
The children's garden is filled with edible fruits, vegetables, and plants, and you're encouraged to touch and taste as you go.
The LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens are located at 4560 Essen Ln., Baton Rouge, LA 70809 and are open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
