This Jail In Louisiana Is Actually A Restaurant And You Need To Visit
Rosedale in New Orleans is a unique restaurant located in a former police station, offering creative dishes in a historic setting.
It's not uncommon to see restaurants take over buildings that have a unique history. In the charming historic downtown area of Monroe, Restaurant Cotton thrives in what was once a cotton exchange. In Covington, what was once a train depot is now LOLA restaurant, a lovely restaurant where you can even dine in an old train car. In New Orleans, there's one particular restaurant that used to be a police station, and today it's one of the most unique restaurants in Louisiana. Let's check it out:
Welcome to Rosedale, a fantastic little restaurant tucked away in New Orleans' Navarre Neighborhood.
With ample seating both indoors and out, Rosedale has quickly become a go-to restaurant for locals looking to dine on creative dishes in a unique space.
Constructed in 1936, the building used to be the Third District police station.
It served the surrounding areas of Lakeview, West End, and Gentilly for over 50 years.
The Third District moved out in the 1980s and then became the Crime Prevention Office until after Hurricane Katrina.
If you look closely, you'll see the jail bars on what is now the unisex bathroom. Actually, all three bathrooms used to be holding cells.
While there are still subtle nods to the building's history, Rosedale has done an incredible job at transforming the space.
The menu features both small and large plate options.
From appetizers to big, juicy, burgers, there's a little something for everyone on the menu here.
Of course, you'll find a few New Orleans staples like BBQ shrimp.
It's served with French bread so you can soak up all that delicious sauce.
Don't forget to save room for dessert.
A meal like this deserves to end on a sweet note, so treat yourself to one of their sinfully delicious creations like pecan pie, lemon cheesecake, or a chocolate espresso brownie served with chicory-coffee ice cream. Yum!
The restaurant requests that you make reservations before dropping in, so be sure to visit the Rosedale website and make your reservation. For more awesome and unique restaurants in Louisiana, check out these scenic restaurants in The Pelican State where the view is as good as the food.
