There are quite a few roads that are known to be haunted or spirited in Louisiana, but none is quite as infamous as Bayou Sale Road, a long curvy road that connects Dulac, LA to Cocodrie, LA. It is known as the most haunted road in the entire state.

Many rumors haunt this road, also known as LA-57.
It is a slow road that connects two very swampy areas.
One story says that there is a ghost hitchhiker that lures in drivers with his outstretched hand.

If you are unlucky enough to pick him up, he could demand treasures and other offerings before he’s willing to go.
Locals to the area are known to become attached to ghost stories and often tell of seeing spirits around the road.

One resident in particular, Jessie Pierre, reported seeing various spirits on the road, particularly the faces of people that have died plastered onto other people’s bodies.

Another popular story about the road is that the Rougarou, the Cajun version of a werewolf, haunts the road.

Some individuals have even claimed to witness the Rougarou in the middle of the road, slamming the breaks to avoid him.
Even if you don’t believe in ghosts or spirits, there are plenty of reasons to find this particular road creepy.
The constant twists and turns along the bayou make for plenty of blind corners where things can feel like they are jumping out at you.
Also along the way, there is a grove of huge live oak trees that died from salt water intrusion into the area.
