Louisiana boasts numerous historic and architecturally significant buildings, many of which are on the National Register of Historic Places.
Louisiana, as a state, takes enormous pride and care to build and sustain our gorgeous public buildings and private homes. It comes as no surprise, then, that we have more buildings on the National Register of Historic Places than anywhere else in the country!
1) Louisiana Old State Capitol, Baton Rouge, LA
Also known as 'the castle', this building was designed by architect James H. Dakin.
2) Wolf-Schlesinger House, St. Francisville, LA
Now the St. Francisville Inn, this beautiful Victorian revival is nestled in a charming corner of Louisiana.
3) San Francisco Plantation, Garyville, LA
This home was almost destroyed when the Army Corps of Engineers began building the MS River levee system, but was lobbied for by historic preservationists.
4) Louisiana Immersive Technologies Enterprise Lafayette, LA
A modern architectural marvel, this technology research center was completed in 2006 by the architecture firm Eskew + Dumez + Ripple.

This gem on the Belle River now serves as a Bed and Breakfast in the heart of Cajun country.

8) Edwin Epps House, Alexandria, LA
This home was originally on Bayou Boeuf in Avoyelles Parish, and was built by Solomon Northrup who later wrote 12 Years a Slave. It was through building this house with architect and carpenter Samuel Bass that Northup was eventually able to escape slavery.
9) Wedding Cake House, New Orleans, LA
This colonial-revival Victorian home dates back to 1896 and is still a private residence.
10) ULL Art Museum Lafayette, LA
This library in Lafayette terrific example of the iconic "A. Hays Town" style that can be found throughout Louisiana and the South.
11) Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame, Nachitoches, LA
Trahan Architects, one of the leading firms in the nation, built this incredible example of modern architecture.
12) Old Lake Charles City Hall, Lake Charles, LA
Built in 1911, this building is now used as a public art gallery and cultural building.
13) Make It Right House, New Orleans, LA
This modern take on the classic shotgun home was designed by the legendary Frank Gehry for Brad Pitt's Make It Right Foundation. It can be found in the Lower Ninth Ward.
14) Doullet House, New Orleans, LA
A quintessential example of steamboat-inspired architecture, this unique gem was influenced by Japanese architecture that was on display at the 1904 World's Fair.
