One of the many advantages to living in Kentucky is that we’re surrounded on all sides by so many wonderful states that we can easily access. Those living in the Bluegrass State will want to listen up on the TSA’s new security standards that will be going into effect next year.

On January 22, 2018, Kentucky driver's licenses will no longer be allowed as a proper form of identification while traveling.

Along with Kentucky, Maine, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Washington will all fail to meet TSA's security standards.
In order for Kentucky residents to pass through a TSA Security Checkpoint they'll be required to have either a passport, Military ID or permanent resident card as a form of identification, even for domestic travel.

Kentucky and the other states currently do not meet the federal government's minimum security standards. This week, the TSA began placing signs near airport security in the nine states, informing travelers of the upcoming changes that will soon be going into effect.
As of right now, Kentucky driver's licenses do not meet the federal government's security standards.

In order to meet the requirements, Kentucky would have to verify the identity of every ID applicant and perform a background check as well as put anti-counterfeit technology into the production of the cards.
Currently, only 24 states are in compliance with these TSA security standards, with all travelers required to have IDs that meet these standards by the year 2020.
