Kentucky has wonderful options when it comes to hotels. From rustic park lodges to cozy bed and breakfast estates, you’ll find everything in the Bluegrass State. But on historic West Main Street in Louisville, it’s hard to miss this unique hotel that stands out amongst the rest. The 21C Museum Hotel is unique in the best ways and you’ll definitely want to visit.
If you've ever been on the corner of 7th and Main in downtown Louisville, then you've probably noticed something a little unique. A double-size replica of David (inspired by Michaelangelo) towers above the street and makes it hard to miss the award-winning boutique hotel that sits behind it. The 21C Museum Hotel is the first museum hotel that features rotating exhibits and an innovative approach to the way people view a hotel stay.
From the moment you walk in the door, you'll quickly realize that this is not your average hotel. A variety of art installations, sculptures and other eye-catching displays will intrigue you and draw you into the space.
The hotel was created from five 19th-century warehouses and now houses 9,000 square feet of exhibition space. The galleries are open daily and the exhibitions rotate, giving you more reason to book another stay.
21C has 91 spacious rooms, each filled with unique art and historic features with a modern flair. You can choose from a more standard Deluxe Double all the way up to a Rooftop Apartment. The Balcony Rooms, like the one pictured below, include their own semiprivate terrace with a city view.
The most unique room at the 21C is the Cyclone. This 500 Sq. Ft. room is also a site-specific sculptural installation created by artists Jonah Freeman and Justin Lowe, so you can literally sleep within the art. The Cyclone has all of the modern amenities that the other rooms do, but also includes items such as a record player and selection of records for you to enjoy during your stay.
Within the hotel, you'll want to be sure to dine at the award-winning Proof on Main. The food and the drinks are exquisite (you can even have them delivered to your room) and the space has a strong artistic presence and sense of humor. It's just another reason that the 21C Museum Hotel is the most unique place to rest your head in Kentucky.
