This Family Restaurant In Kentucky Is Worth A Trip To The Country
The Kentucky countryside is truly something to marvel over, with our rolling blue hills, bucolic landscape, and small towns making for an impossibly charming experience — and often a delicious one, too. In Glendale, Kentucky, a small town of around 2,500, The Whistle Stop is a family-owned country restaurant worth seeking out.
On April 30, 1975, Idell Sego opened a little sandwich shop seating 20 people in her husband's hardware store. She didn't know it then, but her humble restaurant would become the cornerstone of the small country community of Glendale, Kentucky: The Whistle Stop.
Over the years, The Segos worked hard at establishing a unique atmosphere while dining. The Whistle Stop's gift shop/general store is actually an original log cabin that was moved and re-built, and most of the restaurant's booths and lights are handmade, creating an atmosphere that's impossibly charming and sets the scene for an unforgettable dining experience.
The Segos retired from the restaurant in 2005, entrusting Mike and Lynn Cummins to continue the traditions of The Whistle Stop Cafe. Today, this family-owned restaurant in Kentucky is as delightful as ever, and while it's grown in popularity -- even appearing in "Southern Living" magazine -- it remains true to the original vision of its founders.
While its ambiance is wonderful, food is the star of the show at The Whistle Stop, which boasts a menu of Southern classics like meatloaf, pot roast, fried catfish (and fried chicken, of course), country ham, and the legendary Kentucky Hot Brown.
You're always in for a treat when you visit this country restaurant in Kentucky, with daily specials offering diners a delicious (and affordable!) surprise. Fried chicken livers, two sides, and rolls for under $10? Yes, please!
Whatever you order, don't forget to save room for dessert. The pies here are legendary: sky high, fluffy, creamy, dreamy, and darn delicious, earning The Whistle Stop much praise and accolades over the years.
Glendale, Kentucky, is a downright delightful country town that's anchored by a downright delightful family-owned restaurant. Visit, and you might just decide to stay!
