New year, new beginning, and this month's day trip takes us, quite literally, to the beginning of the Bluegrass. Kentucky entered the union in 1792 -- just two states shy of being one of the original 13. Within our storied and historic state, Harrodsburg lays claim to being the oldest town in Kentucky. Founded in 1774, Harrodsburg is the oldest city in Kentucky and the oldest American settlement west of the Allegheny Mountains, earning the town the title "Birthplace of the West." While you're here, be sure to stop by the equally historic Old Owl Tavern, a James Beard Award-winning restaurant that’s part of the Beaumont Inn, a beloved Bluegrass establishment that harkens back to 1845.
