With roughly 500 residents, Marion is the largest Amish town in Kentucky, and it's an idyllic place that's brimming with Bluegrass heart and soul. This adorable Amish town is bustling, with a downtown boasting a variety of markets, antique stores, historic sites, and cozy eateries. It's a place where old-fashioned values and Southern hospitality intersect to create a wholly welcoming and wonderful experience. Marion is located in Crittenden County, a region in southwestern Kentucky that's home to some of the state's smallest towns. It's a place where time moves at a slower pace, and you're never in a rush.
This town is home to an active Amish community of 500, the largest in the Bluegrass State.
And this humble culture can be seen, felt, and experienced all throughout Marion, Kentucky.
Historians will get a kick out of exploring Fohs Hall, a beautiful old building that's a fine example of classical revival style. It was built by Julius Fohs, a world-renowned geologist, and given to the city of Marion and the Board of Education in 1926. In 1982, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. Today, it's a beloved event venue in town and a lovely place to explore.
In fact, Fohs Hall isn't the only interesting geological connection in Marion. If you're into unique museums, Marion is home to the Clement Mineral Collection, a collection of Kentucky and Illinois Fluorite. The crystal specimens range in weight from a fraction of an ounce to hundreds of pounds, and are rather intriguing to see!
Marion's downtown district is home to lots of quaint shops selling antiques and hand-crafted wares. If you're into antiquing, you'll love Marion!
Yoders Variety is an iconic shop in Marion; this local Amish shop sells handmade furniture, clothing, toys, and food. Marion Feed Mills is another iconic spot in town; it's a long-standing business where people often come to hang out and while away the afternoon. You can also find pretty much everything under the sun at this all-purpose general and feed store.
There's a slower pace of life here in Marion, Kentucky; it's a welcoming community that invites visitors to simply enjoy its rich and historic town.
